This cardigan has become a staple for me.
Also, I just really love these pictures.  We took them in my friends Sarah and Ashley's back yard at the perfect time of day and I really like how they turned out.

the new way to layer

I've been listening to a whole lot of Switchfoot lately, and when I was trying to think of a post title, I thought of their album "New Way to be Human," so that's why it sounds grandiose.
BUT this is a really good idea as the weather gets colder!
I have a great wool coat for winter... but its burnt orange.  Which is a good color, but doesn't necessarily go with everything.
So when the orange isn't what I'm wanting, I layer a big cardigan underneath a leather jacket for just as much warmth!

It would also be really cute to layer a printed cardigan under an anorak jacket... I don't have one, but its on my Christmas list :)

fall staples

I have a uniform for every season - a combination of things I know look good together that I can throw on without thinking about it too hard.  It certainly makes getting ready in the mornings easier.

Here's what I've been wearing over and over again this fall:

cardigan: ruby moon (similar) // leggings (SO affordable on Amazon!) // boots: steve madden (similar) // tee: Old Navy

I'll go ahead and go on record as saying that I don't see a problem with wearing leggings as pants - especially leggings as comfy as these are. BUT, if you're gonna do it, do it right - make sure your top is long enough to cover your butt and your crotch.  Once that's taken care of, carry on.

I love this combo because there are so many options - here, the leggings are pattered and the cardigan is plain, but you could also keep the leggings basic black (again, Amazon has some great, thick ones) and a patterned cardigan (Forever 21 has a ton of options this season - 1, 2, 3)

All these cozy layers and tons of apple cider are making my autumn quite nice.

high heels and red nails

I usually don't wear high heels.  At 5'10, almost any heel makes me over 6 feet tall... and my balance isn't all that great.  But last weekend, my fabulous in-laws bought me these super cute wedge-heeled booties for a job interview I have at the end of the month.  Wedges I can do, I don't fall all over myself quite as much.

FINALLY, I have high waisted jeans!  It was kind of cool this week, so I threw a plaid shirt over one of my favorite tanks and tucked it into my jeans.  I really like the way it tuned out! This may be a new fall staple for me.

fall shopping guide

I'm not planning on spending a fortune on a whole new wardrobe for the fall.  There are only a couple pieces I'm planning on investing in that can translate into a bunch of different outfits and bulk up my summer clothes for the colder weather.

Here's what I'm wanting:

high-waisted jeans// chambray dress// cardigan

High waist jeans make the simplest outfit (like a white t-shirt and a statement necklace) look more sophisticated, in my opinion.  Chambray dresses are great for fall because they're still easy and girly, but the heavier texture doesn't seem too summery.  And of course, cardigans are great for taking your tank tops and strapless dresses into cooler weather!

You can never go wrong with graphic tees, they work in all seasons.  Skip N' Whistle is a super cute shop with all sorts of graphic tees and sweatshirts for SUPER reasonable prices. Booties are my staple shoe for fall, and I'm hoping that eventually I will be cool enough to wear a floppy black hat.. maybe this fall it'll happen!
