fall stripes

Once you go high waist, its hard to go back.
I also really like this top - its light enough to layer with, but the longer sleeves make it look more cool weather-appropriate.

easy peasy Christmas: knits

knits

hat // scarf // mittens

Everybody has that friend who is really hard to shop for.  They're really particular and you're tempted to just get them a gift card somewhere, but they're a close enough friend that you feel like that would be a cop-out.
That's where cute knits come in handy.
No matter how picky someone is, everyone loves a cute beanie or scarf.  It's a personal enough gift for a close friend, but also a hard one to mess up.  Go with neutral colors in classic shapes, and it will be something that fits into almost anyone's wardrobe.

This cardigan has become a staple for me.
Also, I just really love these pictures.  We took them in my friends Sarah and Ashley's back yard at the perfect time of day and I really like how they turned out.
Another also, you should go check out those two lady's blogs! They just started, but they are super cute and I know you will love them :)

the new way to layer

I've been listening to a whole lot of Switchfoot lately, and when I was trying to think of a post title, I thought of their album "New Way to be Human," so that's why it sounds grandiose.
BUT this is a really good idea as the weather gets colder!
I have a great wool coat for winter... but its burnt orange.  Which is a good color, but doesn't necessarily go with everything.
So when the orange isn't what I'm wanting, I layer a big cardigan underneath a leather jacket for just as much warmth!

It would also be really cute to layer a printed cardigan under an anorak jacket... I don't have one, but its on my Christmas list :)

5 boots

Untitled #7

one//  two// three// four // five

Boots are by far my favorite shoes.  I wear them all year long. Yeah, they're more expensive than flats or sandals, but they also last forever and make any outfit look 10 times better.  The Minnetonka trampers (3) have been on my wish list FOREVER - here's hoping they're part of my Christmas this year.  I've been seeing a lot of these fold-down booties (5) around, and I really like them on other people.  Not so sure that they'll look great on me, but I'd like to give them a go.  I already have a pair of booties like (1), and they're some of my favorite dressier shoes.  A tall riding boot (2) is good for transitioning dresses to fall, and I love the zipper detail on the back of this pair.  My favorite boot trend, though, is probably the tapestry on (4)... these dress up jeans for date night perfectly, and how cute would they be with cut offs in the summer?

fall staples

I have a uniform for every season - a combination of things I know look good together that I can throw on without thinking about it too hard.  It certainly makes getting ready in the mornings easier.
Here's what I've been wearing over and over again this fall:

cardigan: ruby moon (similar) // leggings (SO affordable on Amazon!) // boots: steve madden (similar) // tee: Old Navy

I'll go ahead and go on record as saying that I don't see a problem with wearing leggings as pants - especially leggings as comfy as these are. BUT, if you're gonna do it, do it right - make sure your top is long enough to cover your butt and your crotch.  Once that's taken care of, carry on.
I love this combo because there are so many options - here, the leggings are pattered and the cardigan is plain, but you could also keep the leggings basic black (again, Amazon has some great, thick ones) and a patterned cardigan (Forever 21 has a ton of options this season - 1, 2, 3)

All these cozy layers and tons of apple cider are making my autumn quite nice.

high heels and red nails

I usually don't wear high heels.  At 5'10, almost any heel makes me over 6 feet tall... and my balance isn't all that great.  But last weekend, my fabulous in-laws bought me these super cute wedge-heeled booties for a job interview I have at the end of the month.  Wedges I can do, I don't fall all over myself quite as much.

outerwear wishlist

outerwear wishlist

one// two// three// four// five// six

It doesn't get terribly, bone-numbingly cold down here in Tennessee, but you definitely need a coat from November to March.  Since I'm ridiculously cold natured and stay cocooned in sweaters and jackets throughout the winter, I like to have a few warm options so I don't get stuck in a rut.  I love all of the jackets and cardigans above - a chunky cardigan is a must for layering, and I like the idea of a poncho for fall before it gets too cold because it's unique.  My favorite has got to be the sweater-sleeved anorak, though... It's the next item on my Christmas list!  The leather jacket would be awesome over dresses and tights to bring them into colder weather, and the denim is great for layering.  Since I'm graduating in May, I'm trying to stick up on cute blazers to wear to interviews... I had to dress for a career fair today and discovered that most of my business casual clothes resembled Karen from The Office... so yeah, I need to fix that.  This blazer is only about 25 bucks and comes in a ton of colors, so it will be a lifesaver.
Sorry for the lack of a Sunday Style this week - we were traveling and then I had to work and it was nuts! I should be back on schedule next week :)

the twirl girl will be your new best friend

I've always been more of a boutique shopper than a mall shopper.  Not only does shopping at boutiques support small business, they also have unique items that you can't find anywhere else.  I've been blessed to live in a town with tons of boutiques, but I also love finding these gems online.
My fellow boutique shoppers, I have found your new obsession.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this shop. Their pieces are gorgeous (the dresses are my favorite!), unique, and easily transition between seasons.  I've styled a couple of my favorite pieces for fall and I know that they'll be staples in my wardrobe year round!

Belinda top: c/o The Twirl Girl// boots: Steve Madden (similar)// jeans: Old Navy
I've already worn this top so many times.  The mocha color is gorgeous and looks fabulous on pretty much all skin tones, and the embroidery is so well done. This is basically the perfect lightweight top for days when you feel lazy, but you still want to look cute!

Country Girl dress: c/o The Twirl Girl// boots: JustFab// belt: old// cardigan: AE (similar)
I can't get over how perfect this dress is.  Originally I was just going to take pictures in the cardigan for autumn, but I had to take it off so you could see how flawlessly it fits! Seriously, its a dream. The chambray material transitions so easily between seasons and can be paired with pretty much anything. This dress is on sale right now, and you should definitely jump on it; I promise you that it will be your new favorite!

You can follow @thetwirlgirl on twitter and like them on facebook for updates and sneak peeks at new pretty things they're getting in stock.  Make sure you check out this sweet little boutique; you will definitely find something to spruce up your wardrobe!
